Digestive Tips & Tricks
TIPS from the Experts:
Some of our favorite knowledge for better digestion and optimal health.
1. Immediately upon rising, consume 16 ounces of room temperature water with 1/2 a lemon squeezed into it :
This makes the body alkaline.
2. Consume a protein and a fat within one hour of waking :
This sets your metabolic profile for the day and ignites the digestive system.
3. Do not combine fruits with grain :
The two compete to break-down sugar and the result is fermentation (gas, bloat and slowed digestion.)
4. Do not be afraid of healthy fat, or even saturated fat if it is from a healthy source (coconut) :
Nations that consume daily fresh young coconut, avocado and/or olive, udos or flax oil actually suffer less heart disease than the USA where everything is fat free and cardiovascular disease remains the 3rd largest killer for American Women.
5. Order the "Welles Step" or any device that helps you to squat while using the facilities :
80% of all colon cancer and other disease is found in the cecum and sigmoid, the two areas that are not completely released during a BM due to our modern toilets. Squatting supports these lower portions of the bowel, reduces pressure on the rectum (producing less hemmerhoids) and helps achieve complete evacuation.
6. Massage your abdomen for 5-10minutes a day in a clockwise fashion. I do this just before bed :
Move from the lower right corner up toward your liver over to the left rib cage down to the left hip bone then toward the center just above the groin. Always toward the exit...This helps to loosen up gas pockets and stool.
7. Not feeling well? Craving sugar? Feeling low energy or cleansing crisis? Get some minerals!!! :
juice some green veggies, make a mineral broth, invest in a greens supplement and feel better instantly!!
8. Make sure that you fast for 12 hours a day :
Separate your evening meal and your next morning meal by 12 hours to allow your body ample time to digest and renew. Sleep is the perfect time to fast...that's why they call the first meal of the day "break" "fast."
9. Eat slowly and chew, chew, chew :
The first part of digestion happens in your mouth. Just by slowing down and chewing thouroughly your body will release more enzymes, suffer less digestive discomfort and absorb more valuable nutrients.
10. Subscribe to the 80/20 rule :
80% of the time focus on raw, organic, premeditated, wholesome food choices. 20% of the time allow yourself to indulge. 80 is the rule, 20 is the exception. For some this means a literal division of calories, others an entire day of great eating and one desert or a glass of wine, for some it is an "anything goes" way every so often. The most important thing to consider is this exercise is to develop healthy boundaries, to enjoy life and to learn to eat exceptionally clean the majority of the time without becoming derailed by one selection that is less than perfect. Happily, you will begin to feel so good 80% of the time that you will find the 20% shrinking by default.
11. Try different methods of fasting :
My grandma vegetable juice fasts for one day a week (usually Sunday evening till Monday evening) to create a clear boundary between the weekends events and the new week of clean choices. Some choose to do one liquid meal a day, others a few days in a row in conjunction with a cleanse once a month or once a season. Fasting is a powerful way to heal the body and allow it time reboot. It has been done in many variations for centuries and believed by many to be the true fountain of youth.
